Training Research Assistants for Quality Data Collection

Ensuring high-quality data collection is paramount to the success of UPHIA 2024-2025. Our comprehensive training program for Research Assistants (RAs) has equipped field teams with the knowledge and skills needed to conduct this important national survey.

The two-week intensive training program covered all aspects of survey implementation, from household engagement to laboratory procedures. Training sessions were conducted in multiple locations across Uganda to ensure accessibility for all field staff.

Training curriculum included:

  • Survey methodology and sampling procedures
  • Interview techniques and data collection protocols
  • HIV rapid testing and specimen collection
  • Quality assurance and quality control measures
  • Community engagement and communication skills
  • Ethical considerations and informed consent
  • Data management and confidentiality
  • Health and safety protocols

All Research Assistants underwent rigorous competency assessments to ensure they meet the high standards required for UPHIA data collection. The training emphasized not only technical skills but also the importance of treating all participants with respect and dignity.

"The quality of our data depends entirely on the quality of our field teams," noted Dr. Agnes Kiragga, Survey Coordinator. "We have invested heavily in training to ensure that every interaction with study participants is professional, respectful, and contributes to the generation of reliable data."

The trained RAs are now deployed across Uganda, ready to begin the important work of data collection. Their dedication and professionalism will be crucial to achieving the goals of UPHIA 2024-2025.
